Frequently Asked Questions

What is the age range of Circle?

St Albans Circle is open to all women aged between 18 and 45 who would like to take part in fundraising for various charities, help with community projects and have a social life away from work/kids.

Do I have to attend every meeting / social?

The best thing is being able to choose which events and meetings you attend – no-one is expected to go to everything and there is a large selection of events covering social, charitable and club meetings.

Do I have to be married to a Tabler to join?

It was originally known as Ladies Circle and in the olden days members could only join if they were married to a member of Round Table! Fortunately, times have moved on and now there is open membership.

Are you part of the National Association of Ladies Circles?

Yes, Ladies Circle was originally set up in Bournemouth in 1932 and has since spread across the country and around the world. St Albans Circle is affiliated to the National Association of Ladies Circles and regularly participates in regional and national events.

What happens when you reach the age of 45?

Most of our members are in their Thirties. The age limit is set nationally and it does help to keep the club fresh. Other well known women’s groups do not have upper limits on ages, consequently their members never leave! Once a member reaches age 45 she graduates onto Tangent. Any males wishing to join are directed to St Albans Round Table. Together the four clubs (Circle, Tangent, Round Table and 41 Club) cover females and males of all ages.

When do you meet?

St Albans Circle meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month.  There is usually a social event on the 2nd Wednesday and a business meeting on the 4th Wednesday. Meetings start at 8pm at various venues in and around St Albans.  There are also ad hoc ‘girls nights out’ at weekends. On joining the club you will be given the full list of venues. Members  can attend as many or few meetings and events as they wish, but it is expected that members  attend at least two community events per year.

How do I join?

A prospective member is encouraged to attend at least 3 events, one of which should be a business meeting, before requesting to join.  After paying the annual subscription on £71.50, (pro rata) you will become a full member of the club. This works out at just under £3 per meeting.

What are the benefits of being a member?

Apart from a varied and active social life, members are actively involved in the group and its growth. Members are eligible to nominate and vote on all charity and community events.

How do you get involved in helping in the community?

Helping in the community is the core part of being a member of Circle. It is expected that all members will take part in at least two community events per year.  Each year there are different projects to take part in as well as ongoing commitments. We welcome ideas for helping in the community and each year we review what we are doing to make sure members enjoy these events and are not overwhelmed with commitments.
